Andrea Radrizzani: Ex-Barcelona and AC Milan chairman says Leeds must be bold

Leeds United new owner Andrea Radrizzani says he plans to make the Yorkshire club one of the “biggest and best” in the top flight.

A week after buying the club, Italy-based businessman Radrizzani said: “We have a great idea for the future of the club.

“For me, it is a real privilege to become involved in the historic foundation of Leeds United.”

Radrizzani has said he will consult his father and founder of wealthy holding company ACL, Massimo, when it comes to running the club.

Can Leeds, who finished ninth in League One last season, make the step up to the Premier League?

“I think they need to be bold to be bold, the change needs to be drastic.

“They need to be bold and scary. Look at Rangers last season and the way that was brought about. I know Leeds have spent a huge amount of money but when they are spending huge money, and it doesn’t lead to success, then I have real issues.

“How much has he put in? Is he the best person to do it or not? Leeds are run by this strange person I’ve never heard of, my guess is they’ve had two or three different people over the last few years so I’m not quite sure if they know what they’re doing.

“They need to be brave, ambitious, bold and nimble and in the right place, able to make the right decisions.”

How will they look?

“We are going to change the colour of the shirt, there is something bigger coming,” Radrizzani said.

“We plan to make Leeds a step forward and one of the biggest and best clubs in the top flight.”

Monk said he hoped that the fans would be “excited” about the new project.

“It’s my job to develop a squad in a way that will allow us to win games, bringing in quality to this football club,” he said.

“The fans should be excited. This project is bigger than me and I think it will last many years.”

Newcastle, Stoke and Middlesbrough are also prospective Premier League newcomers next season.
